I met Rachel in 2021 at an event for carers in Woking, I’d popped in just before it was due to close - I’m so glad I did. At the time I was caring for my 101-year-old mum, who lived in a self-contained annexe in our house, she was suffering from macular degeneration and glaucoma, in addition to old age.
She also came with a large number of old family photos, old school reports etc and lots of wonderful memories!
After speaking to Rachel and seeing samples of her work, Mum and I realised we had an opportunity not to be missed. I knew, we needed Rachel’s skills, support and time to bring the project to fruition, which we had. Unfortunately Mum died the day after her 102nd birthday before we had finished, but Rachel was able to complete it with the help of voice recordings.
This was a great therapeutic and cathartic experience for both Mum and myself resulting in a beautiful memorial of Mum for our family.
